What is SSRN?

SSRN (Social Science Research Network) is an open-access, online, preprint community providing services to leading academic schools and government institutions. It is owned by Elsevier. 

Specialising primarily in social sciences, including economics, law, corporate governance, and humanities it provides an online database of early scholarly research available worldwide through a permanent and searchable online library. 

Why use SSRN?

By creating an account, you can easily share and revise your research. 

Advantages include;

  • Monitor analytics such as the number of downloads and citations for your documents 

  • SSRN preprints are indexed in Scopus

How to SSRN

Before uploading research to SSRN you need to consider the following: 

  • Be aware of any confidentiality, copyright or security issues associated with uploading your publication to SSRN.

  • Publishers may have limitations on what you can share on particular platforms. SSRN is NOT an institutional repository so you will need to look for your publishers’ guidelines in relation to uploading papers to these sites 

  • ARC and NHMRC advise against relying on the use of commercial, social media platforms such as SSRN as a way for meeting open access compliance requirements. Visit the open access policy requirements from ARC for more information.
