Open Research: ARC & NHMRC Requirements

Library Support for Meeting ARC and NHMRC Requirements

The University Library can assist researchers to meet the following funder requirements in terms of availability of metadata and open access to research outputs:

  • Inclusion of a metadata record, and deposit of an open access version of research outputs in NOVA, or inclusion of a link to an open access copy of a publication
  • Inclusion of the funding body and Project Grant ID in metadata records
  • Advice on the open access copyright policy and permissions for research outputs

ARC Open Access Policy

The ARC Open Access Policy requires that any research output arising from ARC funded research must be made openly accessible in an institutional repository (e.g. NOVA) or other acceptable location (e.g. publisher website or digital archive such as PubMed Central) within a 12 month period from the data of publication.

The metadata for the publication must be made openly accessible via an institutional repository as soon as possible but no later than 3 months from the data of publication.

The ARC Research Data Management Strategy encourages researchers to deposit data arising from funded research in publicly accessible repositories.

NHMRC Open Access Policy

The NHMRC Open Access Policy addresses three output types:

  1. Research literature - any peer reviewed publication arising from NHMRC funded research must be made openly accessible in an institutional repository (e.g. NOVA) or other acceptable location (e.g. publisher website or digital archive such as PubMed Central) within a 12 month period from the data of publication. The metadata for publications must be made openly accessible via an institutional repository as soon as possible but no later than 3 months from the data of publication.
  2. Research data - the NHMRC acknowledges the importance of making research data publicly accessible and therefore strongly encourages researchers to consider the reuse value of their data and to take reasonable steps to share research data and associated metadata arising from NHMRC supported research.
  3. Patents - patents resulting from NHMRC funding be made findable through listing in SourceIP.
