How to Borrow

Your Student ID card is your library card which you can use to borrow physical items. Physical library items can be borrowed via the self-check machines or by visiting the Service Zones at your campus library. 

To access or borrow electronic resources you will use your student number or email to log into the platform where it is hosted.

Borrowing for International Students

Different borrowing conditions apply depending on whether you are a pathways, undergraduate or postgraduate student. For more information, visit the Student Borrowing page on the Library website.  

If the item you are looking for isn't in our collection you may be able to borrow it from another library. To find out how to borrow books or journal articles available from another library have a look at the Borrowing from other libraries tab.

Borrowing Tips

  • If there is an item that you do not have access to through the library, you can request to borrow from another library.
  • You can request an item to be sent to another campus to pick up. Find the item in Library Search, press request and choose a pick up location.
  • You can return loans to any University of Newcastle Library.
  • You can renew items online in your MyLibrary account.
  • You can access electronic Course Readings from your course page on Canvas.
  • Physical Course Readings items are available for short loan in the library. You will need to check which library they are held at.
  • Laptop Loans are available 24/7 in the Auchmuty Information Common for use within Auchmuty Library.
