Researcher Skills Toolkit

Introduction

Effective research planning can impact how your research is conducted, with what resources, under what time restrictions, and how any outputs and data are stored. Approaching research with a well-thought-out plan is an important driver for success.

This Toolkit is designed to guide you through your research journey whether you are completing your degree or embarking on a research project for the first time. Each module will focus on a different area of the research journey and will help you to plan, search, collect, analyse, write, publish, and promote your research.

Let’s get started with planning! This module provides an overview of the key factors to consider when planning a research project, and how the Library's services and resources can assist you.

After working through this module you will be able to:

  • Understand different types of research required to be conducted as a post-graduate student or early career researcher.

  • Understand the fundamental components of planning a research project.

  • Identify where to locate information on planning research within the Toolkit.

  • Recognise how Library services and resources can assist at the various stages of the research process.
