Troubleshooting common problems with access to Library eresources.


When accessing MyLibrary authentication is by UON ID number and PIN.

Your MyLibrary account will enable you to place holds on books and keep track of items you have borrowed.


N.B. student number does not require the ‘c’.

Once logged in, your MyLibrary page allows you to:

  • View your loans
  • Renew your loans
  • Check and manage your holds and bookings
  • Save favourite searches
  • Keep a record of your reading history
  • View outstanding charges/fines

If the journal article you are looking for is in a journal that we don't hold at the University of Newcastle, you can request a copy using ArticleReach Direct.

Once you have confirmed that the journal is not available at UON, click the ArticleReach icon in the library catalogue, or go to the ArticleReach website.

Search for the journal and then complete the form to request the journal article.

When requesting an ArticleReach item, authentication is by name, student/staff no. and PIN

BONUS+ is a free borrowing service for students and staff, giving access to over 7 million books from participating university libraries within Australia and New Zealand.

If a book in our Library is unavailable, or we don't own a particular title, simply click on the BONUS+ link in the library catalogue to see if it is available to borrow via BONUS+.

When requesting a BONUS+ item, authentication is by name, UON ID number and PIN.

N.B. student number does not require the ‘c’.

Using eResources


When logging into any UON licensed eResource, you will be prompted to enter your UON ID and password to gain access.

  • STUDENTS: enter your student number (e.g. c3123456) and password
  • STAFF: enter your username ('numberplate') (e.g. abc123) and password




Once logged in, you will see that access has been granted through your affiliation with the University of Newcastle.




Why can I access some electronic journals without logging in?


Some full text journals are freely available on the Internet, either for a limited time or permanently. 

Have you forgotten your PIN?


As per the example below, enter your Student no. (e.g. 901234); Staff no. (e.g. 312467) or Library Card number and then select 'Forgot your PIN?'

Enter the information required and select 'Submit'

You will then receive an email with a link and information on resetting your PIN



Updating your PIN


Did you know you are able to edit your own PIN once you have logged in to MyLibrary?

Select 'Edit PIN'


Enter details and select 'Submit'
