The correspondence spans Dr Burnard's entire career from 1929 until his death in 1971, with letters and telegrams received by his widow after his death to 1974. The correspondence contains letters from family, friends, musical colleagues and students, regarding matters such as notes on the performances of works, the publication of his literary prose and poetry and musical work Harmony and Composition, and his M.B.E. and other awards. Apart from the general correspondence files, more notable correspondents included Percy and Ella Grainger, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Eugene Goossens, Robert Bouffler, John Ashe and Gilbert and Vivienne Bogle.
