Researcher Identifiers, Profiles and Social Networks: Web of Science ResearcherID

What is a Web of Science ResearcherID?

A Web of Science ResearcherID is a unique identifier that connects an author with their works across the Web of Science products (Web of Science Researcher Profiles, and InCites). ResearcherID integrates into the Web of Science Researcher Profiles platform. Researcher Profiles is a platform which records, verifies, and displays peer reviewed contributions of researchers. ResearcherID on your Researcher Profile allows you to manage your publications, track citation counts and calculate your h-index. You can also add publications that are not indexed by Web of Science manually or import them from another source.

Got more than one ResearcherID or Researcher Profile?

As the Scopus ID/Researcher Profile is automatically generated sometimes the algorithm can be incorrect and multiple/duplicate IDs/profiles can be created. You should check and claim your Web of Science author record profile to confirm:

  • All your details are correct.
  • All your publications are assigned to your ID.
  • You have one single ID.

Why should you verify your Author Record?

Ensuring you have one up to date Web of Science ResearcherID allows:

  • NURO to search and find articles to add to your profile.
  • Easier to connect Web of Science to other profiles such as your ORCID profile.
  • Your citation and metric counts to be accurate and not spread across multiple IDs.

Linking your Web of Science ResearcherID to other platforms like ORCID and NURO will ensure that all your platforms are accurate and up-to-date and only showing the research outputs that you have created.

Web of Science ResearcherIDs and NURO

You can add your Web of Science ResearcherID to NURO and when articles are found that match the ID they can be automatically added to your profile via automatic claiming (reviewing these is recommended) or you can be alerted via email when new article matches are found.

Visit the NURO User Guide for more information.

How to claim Author Record/ResearcherID

  1. If you previously had a Web of Science account, sign in with your credentials to start using Web of Science. If not, select register and create an account
  2. Search for your name under the Researchers Search tab.
  3. If there is one result that matches your name, select to view publications. If these publications are yours, select 'Claim My Record' to confirm the publications and to receive a Web of Science ResearcherID.

  1. If, after searching your name, you find multiple results that match your name and publications, select the records that apply and select "Merge Records".
  2. Web of Science will ask you to verify the publications in each profile and then will begin the process of merging the records. This can take some time.
