Researcher Identifiers, Profiles and Social Networks: ORCID

What is ORCID?

ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID. It is a unique, permanent identifier that is controlled by you and travels with you throughout your career.

Your ORCID can be linked to other Researcher IDs and profiles to provide a consistent way to connect all your research outputs and activities in the one record.

You can register for free directly via your NURO profile.

Why use ORCID?

  • You can easily link your ORCID to NURO and other researcher identifiers such as your Scopus Author Identifier, Web of Science ResearcherID and institutions or funders to ensure that all platforms are up-to-date.
  • Your ORCID will distinguish you from other researchers, including those who may have the same name.
  • Your ORCID will help research outputs be correctly attributed to you.
  • You can connect contributions and affiliations to you via your ORCID profile.
  • An ORCID is increasingly required by journals, publishers and funding bodies including the NHMRC and ARC.

How to ORCID

New to ORCID?

As a UON researcher or HDR student you can register for an ORCID via your NURO Profile.

  1. Login to NURO.
  2. From the NURO Homepage > My Actions > Add your ORCID > Click Add.
    • If you already have an ORCID you can sign in with your username and password.
    • If you don't have an ORCID you can click 'Register Now' and follow the instructions.
  3. Once complete you will see a message in NURO indication your ORCID connection has been established. Refresh your browser and your ORCID should display on your NURO homepage.
