Overview

Referencing software at the University of Newcastle

As of 2014, the Library is introducing different options for managing your references.

Instead of downloading the EndNote program, undergraduate and enabling students can now use:

Of course, if you have been using EndNote you can still continue to use it. However, it is also a chance to start anew with a program that is more user-friendly and more suited to the needs of undergraduate and enabling students.

These different programs are web-based or stand alone. When you are using campus computers you will need to use the online version.

These web-based programs are ideal for undergraduate and enabling students who:

  • are not familiar with referencing or creating bibliographies
  • have difficulty referencing
  • have tried EndNote and found it too complicated.

EndNote is still the preferred referencing program for Academic Staff, Research Assistants and Postgraduate, Masters and Honours students.

However, for students who will be working with a small number of references (15 or less) we suggest you consider using alternative reference management programs such as Zotero or Mendeley.
