Conference papers

 

General rules:

Author Names

  • Appear first in the reference, surname first followed by a comma, then initials (do not include the full first names of authors).
  • Include all author names when a conference presentation has up to 7 authors.
  • When authors number eight or more, list the first 6 authors, insert three ellipses points (. . .), then add the last author.

Conference Paper Title

  • Capitalise the first word of the title and sub-title (and any proper nouns).

Proceedings Title

  • Capitalise the first word of the title and sub-title (and any proper nouns).
  • Note that the conference name is a proper noun and should be capitalised.
  • Italicise the proceedings title.

Place of Publication

  • Include the first place of publication, if more than one is listed.
  • For U.S. publications include the official state abbreviation after the city. This is also acceptable for Australian states and territories. For all other countries, spell out the name in full. (e.g., New York, NY; Frenchs Forest, N.S.W.; Abingdon, England).

Publisher

  • Do not include terms such as "Inc" or "Co".

Layout and Spacing

  • The second and subsequent lines of each reference are indented.
  • Include a double-space between each entry in the Reference List.

The general format for a reference to an online conference paper assigned a DOI is:

Note that the second example is not a typo. The first author's name is Simon (singular name). Also, the conference proceedings listed in this example does not provide the names of any editors, so this element is removed.

 

Conference papers - online without DOI

 

The general format for a reference to an online conference paper which does not have a DOI is:

Note that the second example is not missing information - the reference is for a one-page paper.

Conference papers - printed

 

Individual conference papers can be published as part of conference proceedings in book form.
